Do we control media or does it control us?
Media is something I consume everday. It is something that I sadly can not live without. It is also something that comes in question and criticism at the time to time. We live in an age where we have more ways to connect but fewer connections. The family dinner has become silent. When one family member speaks the others feel annoyed or not in the mood to answer back. This is easily true with children 10-18. They feel that they should be left alone on their phones or iPad.
When I think of how much I am measured by media, i believe that unconscious its a lot more then I should be. For example, for many years I had self-esteem and self-confidence issues. This a result of the ideal Male figure that is shown. He has to be tall he has to mean, and he is not allowed to cry or show any empathy or emotion. I was always the type that didn't care about what others thought I always wore my heart on my sleeve. But deep down when I tried to talk to the girl the broad question always are "I am I good enough she could do better."
Media is always the main way we all learn style and fashion. Which pants to buy what brand of shirts are popular now. Every trend that comes out has to die hard assimilators, and others just ignore it. People say that they go aginst what traditional and shared and this makes them free from the control of the media. I don't believe this is the case. If you hate something and go aginst its a result of prior experiences and habits. For example, the " Yeezy's " these sneakers created by Kanya West have become equivalent to wealth and class. If you have them, it means you have money, but it also means that you support that artist and his actions. There are people that could afford them but choose not to spend that amount on a pair of sneakers. There are people that see what he does in the media all the time and hate Kanya. You can say that you're against the mainstream actions being taken. But why are you? It is because you don't agree with it, so you create something that goes against it. Such as your way of dressing or using styles of the past decades. So in many ways, we are not free.
