I Am Michelle Wong

Who are you? I, am Michelle Wong. I am a minority woman, whose rights are at stake because our newly and "fairly" elected President. I am not going to dedicate a whole post on ranting about it though, at least not in my first blog post. I like to be positive and look at the better side of things, so even if there's oppression in our country right now, I am going to use media to guide myself through the dark times, and influence others.
I am addicted to social media and a too frequent user of social media platforms, for example, instagram, snap chat, youtube, etc. I did not understand how social media can channel people's concerns and voices, until the recent protests and outcries over the unfair treatment of the unprivileged. I honestly don't believe I have any power, because I do not have a loud enough voice, for now. I will change that and make sure people will get to hear what I say, but to get there, I need to utilize media. I've done interviews, research projects, art pieces to illustrate gentrification, and after realizing how media helps me reach a crowd, I want to further expand my ability to do that. Through social media, I can gain a bigger following, and with the connections with more people around the world, I can actually make my platform louder and stronger.
I am a fashion enthusiast, and youtube definitely played a part in me wanting to further pursue that. Although connecting fashion to making oppression heard is a far stretch, it really isn't. Social media influencers who have a career in fashion and makeup use their following to help the oppressed and not so fortunate, and that is exactly what I'm aiming for. I want to connect to everyone through my own sense of fashion, and through that route, bring awareness to the unexposed issues in the world. One of  the social media influencers who inspire me and does what I want to do is bubzbeauty. Through her channel, she connected with so many people and viewers around the world, that she is able to bring awareness to lack of resources in third world countries and even create schools for them. Oppression and third world countries are not the only things that I want to bring awareness to, I also want to defy society's definition of beauty. I want everyone to start recognizing that they don't have to be standard model sizes to explore fashion. To build confidence in others and connecting with them helps unite, and I'm sure that will help the world become a better place.

This is an example of my fashion style and taste.
This is the beauty vlogger who uses her platform to help others.
